How to use a resume example
Find the example closest to the job you want, not the job you have. Read the notes under it first: they say what recruiters in that field look for, which skills and licences to list, and how long the resume should be at that stage.
Then press Use this example. It opens in the builder as a new resume in My resumes, next to anything you already have. Replace every line with your own experience: keep the structure and the habits (a verb first, a number in most bullets, the right sections in the right order), not the words. Recruiters read many resumes a day and recognise copied text.
What every example here has in common
Each one fits on one or two pages, uses standard section titles that applicant tracking systems understand, and leads with results rather than duties. The people and employers are fictional; the numbers are realistic for the role and level. Students lead with education and projects; experienced people lead with experience; academics use a CV with publications, grants and teaching.
The template on each example is a suggestion: Classic for law and finance, Modern for tech and most jobs, Executive for senior leaders. Switch template, font and colour in the builder in one click; your words stay where they are.
Questions and answers
Can I copy a resume example word for word?
Use the structure, not the words. The examples are fictional people with fictional employers. Copying their bullet points would describe someone else’s work, and recruiters notice. Start from an example, then rewrite every line with what you did, with your own numbers.
Are these resume examples ATS-friendly?
Yes. They use standard section titles (Experience, Education, Skills), real text in a logical reading order and no images of text. When you download the PDF from the builder, an applicant tracking system can read every word.
Should my resume be one page or two?
One page for students, graduates and most people with under ten years of experience; two pages for longer careers, senior roles and many nursing, engineering and public-sector resumes. Academic CVs run as long as the record. Each example says what is right for its level.
Is a CV different from a resume?
In the US and Canada, a CV is the long academic record (publications, grants, teaching) and a resume is the one- or two-page summary for other jobs. In the UK, Ireland and much of Europe, “CV” simply means resume. The academic examples here are CVs and open in the CV maker.
Do I need a cover letter as well?
Often, yes: many employers still read one, and it is where you explain a career change or a gap. The cover letter generator copies your details and design from your resume.
