Account executive resume example

A one-page resume for a mid-market SaaS account executive with six years in sales, from SDR to small-business closer to mid-market. Sales leaders hiring AEs check quota attainment in the first five seconds, then deal size, cycle and win rate to see whether your numbers would carry over to their market.

What recruiters look for

  • Quota attainment by year: percentage, quota size, rank and President’s Club.
  • Deal profile: average deal size, sales cycle and buyer, so they can compare it with their own motion.
  • Win rate and pipeline: how efficiently you close and how much pipeline you build yourself.
  • Forecast accuracy: managers love reps whose commits come in.
  • A notable deal: your largest or hardest win, with what made it hard.

Writing the summary

Segment, product and buyer, then your best attainment number. One line on how you sell (method, forecasting, discovery). If you are moving segments (SMB to mid-market, mid-market to enterprise), say so.

The summary in this example

Mid-market account executive with six years in SaaS sales, selling field-service software to companies with 50 to 500 technicians. I run disciplined MEDDICC deals, forecast within 5%, and finished 2025 at 124% of a $1.1 million quota.

SMB account executive moving up to mid-market

SMB account executive with two years closing high-velocity deals, at 115% or more of quota for six straight quarters. I have started running larger multi-stakeholder deals with our mid-market team and want a mid-market seat full time.

Account executive outside software (media, logistics, services)

Account executive with five years selling freight and logistics services to manufacturers and distributors, averaging 118% of a $3 million gross-margin quota. I sell on cost and reliability, and I keep the customers I win.

Bullet points that work

Strong lines for this role, beyond the ones in the example. Borrow the shape and put in your own numbers.

  • Finished 3 straight years above 110% of quota (112%, 118%, 127%) with a quota that rose 20% each year.
  • Cut my average sales cycle from 96 to 68 days by agreeing mutual action plans on the first discovery call.
  • Won 9 competitive displacements from the market leader in one year, worth $520,000 in ARR.
  • Built $3.2 million in pipeline in a new vertical (property management) with marketing, closing the first 6 logos.
  • Raised average deal size by 30% by selling annual multi-product bundles instead of single modules.
  • Kept discounting under 12% on average while the team averaged 20%, protecting about $90,000 in ARR.
  • Hosted 4 customer roundtables that produced 15 referrals and $400,000 in new pipeline.
  • Mentored 3 newly promoted AEs on discovery and demos; all hit quota in their second quarter.
  • Recovered a stalled $150,000 deal by bringing in our CEO for an executive call with the buyer’s COO.

Skills to list

Hard skills

  • Full-cycle sales from discovery to close
  • A qualification method (MEDDICC, MEDDPICC, BANT)
  • A sales method (Challenger, SPIN, Command of the Message)
  • Salesforce or HubSpot
  • Forecasting tools (Clari, Salesforce forecasts)
  • Conversation intelligence (Gong)
  • Product demos
  • Pricing and contract negotiation
  • Mutual action plans

Soft skills

  • Curiosity in discovery
  • Persistence without pushing
  • Handling objections calmly
  • Honest forecasting
  • Teamwork with SDRs and SEs

Certifications and licenses worth listing

  • Quota attainment is the credential for SaaS account executives; no certificate replaces it.
  • Sales methodology training (MEDDICC, Challenger, Sandler or Force Management) is worth a line if you completed a formal program and use it.
  • Product or industry certifications (for example a cloud or security certification) help when you sell technical products to technical buyers.

Length and format

One page up to about eight years. Each role opens with attainment and rank, then deal profile, then one or two standout deals. Older SDR or non-sales roles get one or two bullets.

Common mistakes

  • No quota attainment, or attainment without the quota amount. “Exceeded quota” means nothing on its own.
  • Revenue numbers with no period. “Closed $1.4 million” in a year and in four years are very different.
  • Leaving out the segment and deal size, so a hiring manager cannot compare your motion with theirs.
  • Generic sales adjectives (“results-driven closer”, “relationship builder”) in place of win rates and ranks.
  • Hiding a good SDR record. Early promotion is a strong sign of drive.

Questions and answers

What should an account executive put at the top of the resume?

Your current title and employer, then a first bullet with your latest full-year attainment, quota size and rank. If you made President’s Club, it goes in that bullet.

How do I show attainment if I joined mid-year?

Use the period you were measured on and say so: “131% of a prorated $600,000 quota in my first two quarters.” Hiring managers understand ramp periods.

Should I list my sales methodology?

Yes, in the skills section and once in a bullet where it made a difference. Many job ads name one (MEDDICC is common in SaaS), and applicant tracking systems search for it.

Is it okay to share company revenue numbers?

Your own quota and attainment are normally fine to share. Avoid confidential company totals and customer names that are not public references.
