Healthcare resume and CV examples

Resumes and CVs for clinicians, technologists and the people who run clinics, from a medical assistant’s first job to a senior physician. Each one shows where licenses, clinical volume and patient outcomes belong so a hiring manager finds them in seconds.

Licenses and credentials come first

In healthcare, the first screen is usually not a recruiter’s opinion but a credentialing check: does this person hold the license, registration or certification the job legally requires? Make that check easy. Give each credential its full name, the body that issued it, the state where it applies and the year (or the expiration date if the job ad asks for it). “ARRT (R), California CRT with fluoroscopy permit” answers in one line what a vague “licensed technologist” leaves open.

You do not need to print license numbers: employers verify them with the board directly, and a resume travels further than you think. If an exam is booked or a license is pending, say so with the month (“NAPLEX scheduled for June 2026”) rather than leaving the gap for a reader to guess about.

Clinical numbers that mean something

Healthcare work is easy to count, and the people hiring you already think in those counts: patients a day, exams a shift, visits per week, calls a year, caseload, acceptance rate of your recommendations. Add one outcome per role where you can: readmissions, repeat rates, return-to-work, patient satisfaction (Press Ganey, CG-CAHPS), audit results.

Never include anything that could identify a patient, even in a story about a dramatic case. “Managed a crashing septic patient” is fine; dates, ages and unusual details together are not.

Resume or CV?

Physicians, residents, medical students and anyone in an academic or research post use a CV: education first, then training, licensure, publications, grants, teaching and presentations, with no page limit. Everyone else uses a resume of one or two pages. If you are a clinician applying to an industry or administrative role, convert your CV into a resume: keep the results, drop the poster list.

Questions and answers

Should I put my license number on my resume?

Usually not. List the license type, issuing board and state; employers verify the number themselves during credentialing. Add it only if a job application specifically asks for it on the resume.

How do I list a certification that has expired?

Leave it off unless you are renewing it, in which case write “renewal in progress, expected March 2027”. An expired BLS or ACLS card looks careless, and many employers require them current from day one.

Is a two-column template OK for healthcare jobs?

Yes. Hospital applicant tracking systems read every template here, and two columns help when you have many certifications. Physicians and academics usually prefer a single-column CV.

Do I need a cover letter for a healthcare job?

For hospital and clinic jobs it is often optional but read when present, and it is the place to explain a relocation, a shift preference or a gap. The cover letter generator starts from your resume’s details.
