Sales manager resume example

A resume for a front-line sales manager with four years leading a team and seven years of selling before that. Sales directors hire managers who make other people hit their numbers, so the bullets show team attainment, how many reps hit quota, and how fast new hires ramped.

What recruiters look for

  • Team attainment: the team’s quota, result and consistency over several quarters.
  • Rep performance spread: how many reps are at quota, and how you moved that number.
  • Hiring and ramp: hires made, time to full productivity, retention of good reps.
  • Coaching methods: deal reviews, call coaching, playbooks. Show how you make people better.
  • Forecast accuracy: directors and finance rely on it more than almost anything else.
  • Your own selling record: a strong individual track record gives you credibility with the team.

Writing the summary

Say how many reps you lead, what they sell and to whom, and your team’s attainment. Then one line on how you manage: hiring, coaching, forecasting. Keep your own selling record for the experience section.

The summary in this example

Sales manager leading 10 account executives who sell payroll and HR software to small businesses. My team has hit its number in 9 of the last 11 quarters and finished 2025 at 112% of a $7.8 million quota. I hire carefully, coach inside real deals, and run a forecast finance trusts.

Top rep moving into a first manager role

Senior account executive with six years in SaaS sales and four straight years in President’s Club. As the team’s peer trainer I have onboarded 8 reps and run our weekly deal review when the manager is away. Ready to lead a team of my own.

Regional field sales manager

Regional sales manager leading 8 field reps across Texas and Oklahoma who sell building products to contractors and distributors. My region grew from $24 million to $33 million in three years, and I have promoted two reps into key account roles.

Bullet points that work

Strong lines for this role, beyond the ones in the example. Borrow the shape and put in your own numbers.

  • Took over a team at 68% of quota and brought it to 104% within 3 quarters without replacing anyone.
  • Moved 3 underperforming reps onto coaching plans; 2 reached quota within 2 quarters and 1 left on good terms.
  • Built a 30-day onboarding program that cut time to first closed deal from 52 to 31 days.
  • Introduced a weekly pipeline review that raised stage-to-stage conversion from 18% to 26%.
  • Redesigned territories for 12 reps with sales operations, evening out pipeline per rep within 10%.
  • Recruited 14 reps over 3 years with 86% retention after the first year.
  • Partnered with marketing on a referral program that brought in 22% of the team’s 2025 pipeline.
  • Promoted 4 reps into senior or enterprise roles in 3 years.
  • Ran monthly win-loss reviews that led to two pricing changes and a 5-point lift in win rate.

Skills to list

Hard skills

  • Sales coaching and deal reviews
  • Hiring, onboarding and ramp planning
  • Forecasting and pipeline management
  • Quota and territory planning
  • Sales compensation basics
  • CRM reporting (Salesforce, HubSpot)
  • Conversation intelligence (Gong, Chorus)
  • Performance management and coaching plans
  • Sales playbooks and methods

Soft skills

  • Coaching without taking over the deal
  • Honest feedback
  • Keeping morale up in a bad quarter
  • Fairness
  • Working with marketing and finance

Certifications and licenses worth listing

  • Not a hiring factor for most sales manager roles: team results and the people you developed decide the interview.
  • Sales management training (for example Sandler management courses or a company leadership program) is worth a single line.
  • Industry licenses your reps need (insurance, securities, real estate) should stay on your resume if you hold them.

Length and format

One or two pages. With ten or more years, two pages are fine. Lead with the management role in full; earlier selling roles keep one or two bullets with your attainment and awards.

Common mistakes

  • Writing only about your own past deals. As a manager, your team’s numbers are the headline.
  • No team size, quota or attainment, which hides the scale of the job.
  • Claiming the team’s best deals as yours. Show what you did to help them close.
  • Leaving out hiring and ramp, which directors care about as much as the number.

Questions and answers

Should a sales manager include their personal quota attainment?

Yes, for earlier selling roles: it shows you can do the job you are coaching. For the management role, use team attainment instead.

How do I show coaching results on a resume?

With numbers about your reps: how many hit quota before and after, how fast new hires ramped, how many you promoted, and conversion rates you moved through deal reviews.

Can a player-coach list both personal and team numbers?

Yes. Give the team result first, then your own quota result in the same role, so the reader sees both responsibilities.
